5 Simple Ways to Conserve Water

Bookmark and Share

At times it feels like we are inundated with 'options' to help the environment - options that are far too costly, too time consuming, and too complicated.

Here are five ridiculously simple ways to conserve water - it will help your utility bill AND the environment:

1) When doing laundry, match the water level to the size of the load. If you are doing a small load of laundry, simply adjust the water level.

2) Turn off the water while brushing your teeth - unless you're actually rinsing your toothbrush, turn off the tap.

3) When washing dishes by hand, half fill the 2nd sink with water for rinsing.

4) Set a timer when you shower. Start at 10 minutes just to see where you're at - if you normally take less time than that, try to trim even 1 minute off and decrease the length of your shower over time. If you take longer showers than that, reduce your time to 10 minutes. I have long hair, and 10 minutes is still plenty of time for me to shampoo, condition, and scrub myself clean.

5) Let your kids bath together. Or, if they are too old for this, bathe the cleanest child first. When your second child gets in the tub, add just enough water to warm the water (and to make the bubble bath foam a bit!).

By implementing these simple options, you will help the environment significantly.
